Every Jaguar XJ X308 from 1997 to 2003: which radio was fitted, where its serial number hides, and what we can do with it.
Your code comes from the serial number of the radio, not from the car — so the first job is getting that number off the unit. The table below is your XJ X308: the units fitted, and where the serial hides on each.
Already have the serial? Type it in and we will tell you straight away whether we can answer it.
| Generation | Radios fitted | Serial | Where to read it | What we do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XJ8 / XJR 1997–2003 |
Alpine AJ9800, Alpine AJ2000W navigation-ready | JA… | stamped into the metal case (the label carries no serial); type the top line, starting JA | Free in 24 h, or instant if you pay |
Radio names are what is written on the fascia, not the name of the company that built the unit — a “6000 CD” or an “RCD 300” is what you see in the car. Unit fitment varies by market and trim, so treat the list as the usual case and let the serial decide: it is the serial that determines the code, not the model.
From 1997 to 2003 the XJ X308 came with the radios below; the serial on the unit is what decides the code.
On XJ X308 cars from 1997–2003 the radio fitted was usually one of: Alpine AJ9800, Alpine AJ2000W navigation-ready. The serial reads JA…; stamped into the metal case (the label carries no serial); type the top line, starting JA. Send us that serial: the code is free by email within 24 hours, or on the page straight away if you pay to skip the wait.
Careful: most units lock for good after about ten wrong attempts. If a code does not take, stop and email us before trying again.
XJ8 / XJR (1997–2003): JA…, stamped into the metal case (the label carries no serial); type the top line, starting JA.
Yes. Every code we can answer is free and emailed 24 hours after you order; a small fee only skips the wait.
Early S-Type (1999–2002) Visteon button units: press preset 1 until the first digit is right, then 2, 3 and 4, without long pauses. Confirm with preset 5 — a beep means it is accepted. Units with a numbered keypad (X-Type, S-Type from 2002, XJ from 2003; Alpine-built, JAC… label): press the key with the number of each digit once. There is no confirm key — a beep after the last digit means the code was accepted. After three wrong codes the display shows PLEASE WAIT: leave the radio on for at least 30 minutes; it then accepts three more tries. Switching off restarts the wait.
