Look at the display: count the dashes it shows for the code. If it wants five digits, count the numbered buttons that actually enter them — a five-digit Becker code is built only from the digits 1 to that many. Some radios have more buttons than they use for the code, so count the ones you press, not the ones you see.
Please enter the eight-character serial from the casing label, for example R2035446 or 11157338 together with its BE model number, or a full DB… or CM… label serial. A Mercedes part number like A163 820 05 79 names the model, not your unit, so no code can be worked out from it.

The label on the casing, typed exactly as printed: the Becker model first, then the eight-character serial — BE2560 and W5007270. If your label starts with AL, PA, DB or CM, type it in full too: those are not Becker units, and shortening the label makes it look like one, so the code you get back would not be yours.

How to Find your Mercedes-Benz Radio Code

A Mercedes head unit that has lost power asks for its code and never shows the serial, so the unit has to come out of the dash. Becker units release with a pair of U-shaped keys pushed into the holes at the corners of the fascia.

On the label you will find the model (BE 6023, BE 2010 and similar) and the serial. Send both — the model tells us which family the unit belongs to.

Some Mercedes units carry a longer serial instead, beginning DB or CM — for example DB0920R1000019 or CM0032A9501178. Those we look up whole, and they need no extra question: type the label exactly as printed, all fourteen characters, and nothing else. Do not shorten it — a shortened label looks like a different unit entirely.

The number that will not work: the part number. On a Mercedes label it looks like A163 820 05 79 — an A, then ten digits in groups. It names the model of radio, so it is the same on thousands of cars and cannot produce your code. The serial is the shorter string beside it: eight characters, or a DB… label. If what you are holding is longer than that and starts with A, keep looking.

Why we ask what the radio wants. The same serial has different codes depending on the unit: some Becker radios take a four-digit code, others a five-digit one typed on the preset buttons, using only the digits from 1 up to the number of buttons that enter it.

So look at the display first and count the dashes. Four dashes means a four-digit code, however many buttons the panel has. Only for a five-digit code does the button count matter — and then count the buttons that actually enter the code, not every button you can see. With that answer there is exactly one right code and you get it on the spot.

Older Becker labels print Model-No. (BE 1692) and Serial-No. (a letter and seven digits) on separate lines. Type them together, BE first. The long line under the barcode, between two stars, is not the serial.

How to Enter your Mercedes-Benz Radio Code

  1. Switch the radio on — the display asks for CODE.
  2. A four-digit code uses any digits, 0 included. Set each digit the way your unit prompts — usually by pressing a preset button repeatedly, or by turning the tuning knob.
  3. On units with numbered buttons, a five-digit code is typed directly: button 1 types a 1, button 2 a 2, and so on, so it only uses the digits from 1 up to the buttons that enter it.
  4. Audio 30 APS (seven keys under the display): type the five digits with those keys, then press » at the top left, next to ON, to confirm. Until you press it the digits just stay on the display.
  5. Sound 10 cassette units (Vito, Sprinter): step each digit with the + key on the left, move to the next one with a short press of M, and after the last digit press and hold M to confirm.
  6. Sound 30 CD units: set each digit with the arrow keys ▲ ▼, move to the next one with a short press of M, and after the last digit press and hold M until the radio takes the code. A short press there only jumps back to the first digit.
  7. Audio 10 CD (two knobs): turn the right-hand knob to each digit, press it to move on, and after the last digit hold it for about three seconds.
  8. Becker cassette units of 1994–1999 with six preset keys under the display (BE 1692 and its kin): type the five digits with presets 1–6, one press per digit, then press and hold SC between the TUNE arrows. If the display shows WAIT, leave the radio switched on until CODE comes back — 10 minutes, or up to 24 hours after several wrong tries — and do not try another code meanwhile.
  9. Some units start by themselves after the last digit; others need a confirm key. If nothing happens after the last digit, tell us what the display shows rather than pressing other buttons.
  10. If the screen says Anti-Theft Protection Activated, no code will unlock it — it needs a Mercedes workshop.
